London events in July 2013

July is a great month for events in London. Whether you’re into sport, music, theatre or pageantry, there’s always a festival, tournament or concert taking place for you to enjoy. Here are just a few events taking place in the capital this July:

Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park

A line up including Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Jennifer Lopez will take to the stage in Hyde Park for a new event that runs over two weekends in July. There will also be midweek entertainment including film, literature, music and sport.

Dates: July 5-14

Location: Hyde Park.

Coronation Festival 2013

Last year saw celebrations marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and 2013 marks 60 years since her actual coronation. To celebrate, a four-day festival will take place in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. More than 200 companies who hold the Royal Warrant will display their crafts, industries, designs, innovations and more. There will also be evening performances celebrating music and dance over the past 60 years.

Dates: July 11-14

Second Investec Ashes Test: England v Australia

The second Ashes test at Lord’s pits these two rival cricketing nations against each other. England have had the upper hand in recent years, so can Alastair Cook’s team do it again, or will the visitors from Down Under record a famous win?

Dates: July 18-22

Location: Lord’s Cricket Ground, St John’s Wood Road, St John’s Wood.

London Anniversary Games

Last summer, the likes of Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah captivated the crowds in the Olympic Stadium with their gold medal winning performances.

World-class athletes, including many gold medallists and world record holders, will return to the stadium in late July for this top IAAF Diamond League meeting.

Dates: July 26-28

Location: Olympic Stadium, Olympic Park, Stratford.

Nearest station: Hackney Wick Overground Station

The Proms 2013

This annual festival of music begins on July 12 and runs until September.

Works by Stravinsky, Strauss, Britten and Mozart, plus a special Doctor Who prom will also be among this year’s line up. Most of the performances take place in the Royal Albert Hall, although look out for Proms in the Park, a concert taking place in Hyde Park on September 7.

Nearest Tube: South Kensington and High Street Kensington stations.
