Paddington and Bayswater – Two of London’s Premier Areas


Paddington is one of the important areas within the City of Westminster, in central London, having been integrated with Westminster and Greater London in 1965. The district is distinguished by three important landmarks which are the Paddington Green Police Station which is the most important high-security police station in the UK; Paddington Station which offers convenient links to all over the city and beyond particularly to Heathrow Airport via the Heathrow Express and to nearby neighbourhoods and towns; and St Mary’s Hospital. Many new developments are taking place in the area particularly a new major project, known as Paddington Waterside that is geared towards regenerating former railway and canal land between 1998 and 2018.

Paddington has a strategic location which is close to most tourist attractions and to Hyde Park. It is an upscale neighbourhood but it offers all types of hotel accommodation from the most expensive luxury and boutique hotels to the cheapest places to stay. The famous Lord’s Cricket ground is located in this area as well as Abbey Road Studios where famous bands such as the Beatles used to perform. Located within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in central London within the City of Westminster, Bayswater is situated 4km west-north-west of Charing Cross, on the edge of Kensington Gardens. It is one of the most cosmopolitan areas of London being home to a diverse local population and to a large number of hotels. Although the area is close to most attractions of the city and it has attractive streets and garden squares lined with Victorian stucco terraces, the area offers affordable hotel accommodation for budget travellers.
