Pertinent Information Regarding Bethnal Green

Historically an agrarian hamlet in the ancient parish of Stepney, Middlesex, Bethnal Green is a town in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets just 3.3 miles northeast of Charing Cross. It was cut off from Stepney as a result of the population increases that followed the expansion of London during the 18th century. In 1743, it became the parish of Bethnal Green which became the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green in 1900 with the population reaching its apex in 1901 and then it steadily declined until 1981.

Shifting from the agricultural spectrum, the economic history of Bethnal Green had transformed to market gardening, weaving and light industry but even that has now faded away. The built environment’s quality also deteriorated by the turn of the 20th century and the aerial bombardment of the Second World War further worsened the situation when 173 people were killed at Bethnal Green tube station in 1943 in a single raid. However since 1965, it has become a part of Greater London.

Bethnal Green now offers plenty to explore such as the stomping ground of the gangland bosses of the 60s, the Kray Twins, and the birthplace of Carry On star Barbara Windsor. It is now a popular, cosmopolitan and lively area of the East End of London and is close to places such as Hackney, Shoreditch, Mile End, Whitechapel and Spitalfields. It is located outside the congestion charging zone, in tube zone 2 and it is easy to get to central London via Bethnal Green Tube Station and Bethnal Green Train Station.

Bethnal Greens offers diverse entertainment options due to which it is a fantastic place to stay if you are visiting London. One of your best staying options is in a boutique hotel Paddington London as you will be able to stay in a luxurious place close to most attractions of the city. For people visiting London, who wish to enjoy the various attractions that it offers, it would be best to stay at Lancaster hotels as they would be located close to most places of interest.

Tourists to London find Bethnal Green to be a great place as it is home to many gifted artists and professionals and because of the regeneration projects that have been transforming the area into a most desirable place which tourists would like to visit. Although some people may feel that the cosmopolitan nature of the area may have destroyed the Cockney East End traditions and nature, but it is still there for tourists to experience.
